 Freezing chicken is the only way to store it for long periods. If marinated beforehand, frozen chicken is a blessing for surprise guests or cravings that don’t give you enough time to rush to the nearest butcher and get the new chicken off their shelves.

Frozen Halal Chicken

Much like frozen veg-ready meals. Halal frozen chicken meals can be ready to eat in as little as half an hour, and with tons of recipes on the internet, the sky is the limit. Here are some of our favourites: 

General Tso Chicken

While waiting for your chicken to thaw, whisk egg whites in a bowl and add soy sauce and chicken stock. Once the chicken is thawed, cut it up into cubes and add about 500 grams of chicken to the bowl. Leave to marinate for half an hour. 

Mix corn flour, baking powder, and salt and pepper in another bowl. Dip and roll each chicken piece into the dry powder mix, and then fry in preheated oil while stirring. Remove the chicken when it is golden.

 Add vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and corn flour to the sauce in a bowl and whisk. Stir and cook this mixture with vegetables of your choice in a pan until aromatic, then add the chicken pieces and stir for another minute before serving in a dish. 

Chicken Alfredo

Place your chicken aside to thaw, and begin softening your favourite pasta according to pack instructions. Add salt, pepper, chopped garlic, onions, and mushrooms in a lightly oiled pan. Cook until the onions are browned, then add diced chicken pieces and red chilli flakes. 

Add cornflour and halal milk, cream, and mayonnaise, when the chicken is cooked, followed by nutmeg and cheese. For added colour and flavour, you can introduce coriander and basil to the pan before pouring the thickened mixture onto your pasta dish. 

For garnishing, use more basil and coriander before serving.
