Frozen Chicken vs. Fresh Chicken: Is One Really Healthier Than the Other?

Is fresh chicken healthier than frozen chicken?

This question has been the center of heated discussion for a long time. Many people believe frozen chicken loses all of its nutritional value and can even be very unhealthy to consume after a while. This has prevented people from purchasing various frozen foods such as frozen meat kebabs or frozen chicken kebabs. But is there any truth to this perception?

 Let’s find out!

 Frozen Chicken: Poultry and Home

Yes, frozen chicken does lose some of the nutrition when it’s kept frozen in the freezer. However, the amount of lost nutrition is so small that it can be easily negligible. But don’t let this refrain you from buying frozen chicken from the store.

You might believe that frozen chicken has high levels of unhealthy saline and is slathered with preservatives. But that’s not the case because store-bought frozen chicken has all the protein and nutritious juices of the chicken that is well-preserved by the poultry supplier. Regardless, you should research well before buying frozen chicken from any store.

On the other hand, buying fresh chicken and freezing it for a few days might make the chicken lose a few nutritional juices because our freezers are not well-equipped to freeze food and preserve it for a very long period. Home freezers are only meant to keep the food cold.

Fresh Chicken or Frozen Chicken; Which one is more nutritious?

The two types of chicken are not much different from one another. The only fact that draws the line is their storage life. For instance, frozen chicken is meant to be frozen and stored for a long time. Contrarily, fresh chicken should only be stored for a few days before it loses a staggering amount of nutritional value.

In that case, if you want to buy chicken that would be entirely consumed within two days, go for fresh chicken. But, if you want to keep it frozen for more than two days, frozen chicken is the perfect choice for you since it retains its nutritional juices for a significant period. So, now you can buy any frozen food such as frozen meat kebab or frozen chicken kebab without any worries.
