Whenever you attempt to cook a juicy steak, you always mess up. It is either too dry or too tough or maybe even sometimes raw in the middle. And probably you are wondering, it seemed so, easy when I was watching that cooking show or reading the cookbook, what am I doing wrong? If that’s the case, you are in the right place. Here are five mistakes that you are probably making when cooking a steak:

Different Cuts Different Cooking Process

When cooking steak, it is important that you understand different types of meats and cuts. Some steaks require slower cooking times on a low heat while others work best on a barbeque. If you are confused, you can check the price tag, steaks that are more expensive are usually best when fried.

Out From the Fridge, Straight Into the Pan

This probably the most common mistake when trying to cook a steak. Placing the cold meat on a very hot pan can make your steak tough and chewy. Let the steak rest for at least 20 minutes after taking it out from the fridge. Then place it into a hot pan to bring it up to room temperature. This will give your steak a beautiful brown colour on the outside that you are looking for.

Pan Is Not Hot Enough

You have to make sure that your pan is at the optimal temperature before placing the steak in it. Your steak should start sizzling as soon as it touches the surface of the pan. Without a perfectly hot pan, it can be difficult to get a good sear and colour on your steak.

Flipping It Too Many Times

When cooking steak bear in mind that the steak should only be flipped once. It’ll get tough if you keep flipping it frequently. But you can flip it more than once if you didn’t get your desired crust after the first flip.

Not Letting It Rest

Yes, it is better to let the steak rest for a few minutes before digging in. This will help seal in the juices and the steak will be tenderer when you serve it. When the steak is done, transfer it to a plate and cover it with foil to keep it warm.
